The GATHERS project aims to integrate geodetic techniques: GNSS, LiDAR and InSAR for monitoring and modelling of earth surface deformations and seismic risk. As part of the project, 1-month internships are organized for master’s students who will prepare their master’s thesis in the field of Remote Sensing and Geodesy for deformation monitoring under the supervision of a selected GATHERS mentor. GATHERS experts have strong experience using geodetic techniques for deformation monitoring, but their research interests are much broader.

REGISTRATION: 15th January – 22th February 2023

PROGRAM: Master’s degree program in Geodesy and Cartography at UPWr

DURATION: three semesters (1.5 years)

SPECIALITY: Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, Satellite Geodesy

Registration

If you like the analysis of geodetic data, cooperation with others and you want to learn about modern geodetic methods of deformation monitoring – apply for the Geodesy & Cartography master’s studies at UPWr.

The Master’s degree program in Geodesy and Cartography at UPWr covers three semesters (1.5 years) in various specialities. Topics of master’s theses within GATHERS are offered in three specialities:

  • Remote Sensing,
  • Geoinformatics,
  • Satellite Geodesy.

Registration for Master’s studies opened on January 15, 2023 and closes on February 22, 2023 at 12:00. The studies are conducted in Polish, and the abroad internship will be conducted in English.

As part of GATHERS, the student will have the opportunity to cooperate with experienced scientists in the field of Remote Sensing and Geodesy to monitor deformations:

  • Satellite Radar Interferometry (InSAR) – MSc thesis supervisor: Dr Maya Ilieva with the cooperation of Dr Freek van Leijen and Prof. Ramon Hanssen from TU Delft, Netherlands
  • Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) – MSc thesis supervisor: Prof. Grzegorz Jóźków together with Prof. Norbert Pfeifer and his team from TU Wien, Austria
  • Global Navigation Satellite Systems in seismology (GNSS-seismology) – promotor: Prof. Jan Kapłon, with the support of Prof. Mattia Crespi and his group from Sapienza University of Rome, Italy

Participation in GATHERS is an excellent opportunity for students to test themselves in scientific work, cooperate in an international group and improve their language skills. We encourage students to take up the challenge, contact us and cooperate.
