Natalia Wielgocka, a PhD student at UPWr Doctoral School and a researcher at the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics, recently completed a fruitful internship within the GATHERS project at TU Wien, working alongside Professor Norbert Pfeifer’s team.

During her internship, Wielgocka delved into the intricacies of LiDAR and photogrammetry, focusing on their applications in determining horizontal displacements. Through hands-on experience and collaboration with experts, she gained valuable insights into the utilization of LiDAR and photogrammetric data from UAVs.

Her research centered on testing various change detection algorithms utilizing photogrammetric images, LiDAR point clouds, and Digital Surface Models (DSMs). This practical work not only deepened her understanding of these techniques but also provided her with valuable skills for ongoing research.

Additionally, Wielgocka had the opportunity to attend the GATHERS Winter School in Rome, where she contributed to practical sessions in LiDAR and delivered a presentation during the Workshop, showcasing her growing expertise in the field.

Overall, Wielgocka’s internship experience allowed her to broaden her knowledge and gain practical skills in LiDAR and photogrammetry, setting a solid foundation for her future research endeavors within the GATHERS project.
